At UP on the Roof, we handpick high-quality wines for you to enjoy while taking in panoramic views of the Upstate from atop the Embassy Suites hotel in downtown Greenville, SC. Check out a few of our favorite white wines below or make a reservation to enjoy a glass (or bottle) on the rooftop today!

Chardonnay: Benziger Sonoma Chardonnay

Aged in oak like a typical Chardonnay, this Sonoma County, California, wine delivers creamy hints of butter along with sweet meringue. It also boasts bold fruit flavors like apple, pear, apricot, and lemon, the latter of which provides a lively acidity often not found in Chardonnays. When you take a sip of Benziger’s Chardonnay, you’ll love how all of these flavors pamper your palate, resulting in a luscious finish that will have you looking forward to the next mouthful.

Food Pairing Suggestion: Pan-Seared SC Wreckfish

We serve this firm, mild local fish with lemon-scented jasmine rice and grilled pear chutney. The flavors in the Chardonnay will draw out the lemon and pear.

Pinot Grigio: Benvolio

A pure Pinot Grigio, this wine comes from the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, known for producing some of Italy’s most distinctive whites. The aroma of Benvolio’s elegant Pinot Grigio contains delicate notes of lychee and rosewater. On the palate, the wine is refreshingly dry yet full, with flavors of apple and pear. This Pinot Grigio tastes excellent on its own or with food.

Food Pairing Suggestion: Honey-Soy Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps

Like many white wines, this Pinot Grigio pairs well with white meat. The dry, acidic wine will cut through the fact of the fried chicken, as well as the richness of the herbed goat cheese ranch we serve it with.

Sauvignon Blanc: Loveblock by Kim Crawford

Renowned winemaker Kim Crawford created Loveblock in Marlborough, New Zealand, the New World epicenter of Sauvignon Blanc production. Therefore, this wine exhibits typical yet exceptionally executed characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc, including a pale straw color, grassy aromas, minerality, and gentle notes of tropical fruits such as pineapple.

Food Pairing Suggestion: Chilled Crab Stack

The Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with seafood, especially crab. We serve chilled crab with peppery watercress, seaweed salad and citrus-avocado dressing, making it the perfect warm weather dish.

White Blend: Upshot by Rodney Strong Vineyards

If you want to try something different, order a glass of our wine list’s one and only white blend: Upshot. Sonoma County winemaker Rodney Strong Vineyards mixed five different varietals in this Chardonnay-heavy (50%) wine, including Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Noir, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The result? A crisp, bright wine with bursts of white peach, apricot, melon, jasmine, and wet stone minerality.

Food Pairing Suggestion: Rabbit Tacos

Why not pair this wine with an equally innovative dish? Because white wines pair well with white meats, try our unique rabbit tacos, served with tangy North Carolina barbecue sauce, a fennel and blue cheese slaw, saffron crema, and sunflower sprouts.
